Women’s T20 World Cup Preview

The Game

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup returns this summer with the biggest field in tournament history, as 12 teams battle it out in England and Wales from 12 June to 5 July 2026. The final will be played at Lord’s, with hosts England opening the competition against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston.

For Gray-Nicolls, this tournament is a showcase of elite cricket and a celebration of the women’s game. It is also the perfect time to explore our GEM cricket equipment range, designed specifically for women’s cricketers, with lighter bats, less bulky pads and gloves sized to better fit female hands.

Who are the favourites?

As ever, Australia arrive as one of the teams to beat. Six-time champions, stacked with all-rounders and match-winners, they remain the benchmark in global T20 cricket. Their group-stage meeting with India at Lord’s on 28 June could be one of the defining games of the tournament.

India are serious contenders too. They have power at the top, world-class spin options and the confidence of being current ODI World Cup winners. South Africa, runners-up in recent global tournaments, are dangerous again, while New Zealand return as defending champions after their famous 2024 title win.

Then there is England. Home advantage matters. Familiar conditions, full crowds and a squad packed with experience give England every chance of going deep. Their group is far from simple, with New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Scotland all standing in the way.

Gray-Nicolls players to watch

Heather Knight will be central to England’s hopes. Selected in England’s squad, Knight brings calm, experience and high-pressure run-making to the middle order. She arrives with timely form too, after an unbeaten 70 helped England complete a record chase against India just before the tournament.

For Scotland, the Bryce sisters will be must-watch players. Kathryn Bryce captains Scotland, offering runs, overs and leadership, while Sarah Bryce gives the side quality behind the stumps and at the crease. Both are named in Scotland’s World Cup squad. The GEM collection has long been associated with Sarah and Kathryn Bryce, making their World Cup campaign a brilliant advert for equipment built for the women’s game.

Georgia Voll is one to watch for Australia. Named in a powerful squad, she represents the next wave of Australian batting talent: fearless, aggressive and ready to make an impact.

And then there is Melie Kerr. New Zealand’s captain, defending champion and one of the most complete cricketers in the world, Kerr can win games with bat, ball and in the field. She will lead the White Ferns, with 10 players returning from their 2024 title-winning campaign.
